about

Returning to ITI is Tokyo based acid-king Shun, for his first full-length EP proper for us. He caught our attention popping up Arnaud Rebotini’s Black Strobe imprint, and we were so impressed with his remix for Marlon Hoffstadt that we had to ask him to remix Type-303 earlier this year. He has been a DJ on the Tokyo scene for over ten years, which is abundantly apparent within the production of Dreamland EP, despite his foray into making records being a relatively new endeavour!

I’ll Never Reach Your Level starts off proceedings with some overdriven 303 action and dirty drum machines, which aptly sets the scene for the rest of the record. The rave offensive takes a slightly more melodic turn with the introduction of some orchestral strings that remind this writer of one Joey Beltram Esquire, which is only ever a good thing.

Next up, OffOnOn is a wonderfully ebullient slice of askew, weirdo-acid that parps, bleeps and rolls along over another pounding 808; dance floors beware of that kick drum. Techno Bowl starts out the traps at full pelt, with a gorgeous, analogue synth riff that propels the track forward, across the Asian continent and into a British field somewhere just outside the M25, in 1991.

On remix duty we are super excited to welcome 90’s Wax and Bordello A Parigi alumni Younger Than Me to the ITI family. Long-time admirers from afar, we thought it only right to approach Marcello & Francesco for a remix of I’ll Never Reach Your Level and, by jove, were we not disappointed! The Men From Milan have conjured up a relentless, thrasher of a remix, taking the original’s acid elements to atomic new levels.
