Timothy Clerkin’s Ransom Note sub-label is back with another instalment of mind-melting, electronic impeccability in the form of Yuan’s Avance EP. The newcomer, based in South London, has served up three diverse tracks, which are equal parts dance-floor-smasher and off-the-wall, acidic weirdness.

The titular track, Avance, initially sent our lofi-rave radar into overdrive with its gnarly 303 and thumping drums! Yet, it’s a track that manages to be both understated and ‘orrible, simultaneously. For which we would like to offer ‘maximum respect’ in a suitably retro style.

A Weird Dream changes the EP down a gear & onto a less straightforward path, where gorgeous rave pads ring out over the fitful, chopped drum patterns. The Trip Vol. 1 picks the pace back up with a lovely, rolling journey into the forest. Birds chirp all around as the trees give way to 909s & dreamy synthesisers and it all breaks down into a collage of sounds…

To round off, we are super excited to welcome Ghost Culture to the ITI stable. The Phantasy stalwart, who has, for this writer’s money, produced some of the most important electronic records of the last decade, brings out the big guns here. He firmly applies the brakes, decelerating Avance all the way down & turns it into a slow-mo, acid-chug-fest. Slightly reminiscent of Electro-clash’s sound palette, this is the track where you go “fuck standing at the bar anymore, I’m off to DANCE!”
